Does Suncor offer relocation assistance?

Pros

Salary and bonus are still above market average. The benefits package is just okay

Cons

The past few years of continuous layoffs have really taken it's toll on Suncor's culture. It's not a very collaborative or inclusive environment and quality of work takes a backseat, as everyone is focused on staying off the lay-off list instead of making things better. Poor management practices from leadership tend to promote the loudest voices and yes-men instead of taking a more transparent and balanced approach to performance management. Don't expect any upward mobility within SCM unless you are prepared to relentlessly brown-nose. There also isn't much diversity amongst leadership (manager and above) Suncor also has the usual big company problems, such as the government-levels of bureaucracy, very conservative business approach, and the tall and hierarchical org structure. Despite lip service from leadership, Suncor is still an old-school company with no signs of changing.

Advice to Management

Attracting and retaining talent requires more than just good wages. Just because Suncor is a "good" place to work compared to other oil companies, doesn't mean that its good compared to top companies in most other industries.

Does Suncor offer dental insurance?

Pros

- Great starting pay, would be hard to find anything in that area that could complete with. - Health and dental benefits were outstanding as well as a pension & 401k. - Coworkers were all great and the USW employees all worked as a family

Cons

- The refinery is fairly old and starting to show its age and some units and equipment could use a overhaul. - Plant managers come and go so often it seems like they use this site as a springboard to move up, so not much incentives to spend money on improvements.

Advice to Management

Hire upper management that’s been at this facility for most of their career, instead of people who only plan on staying for 3-4 years. They would have more gratification in seeing improvements and wouldn’t be afraid of spending the money needed for this.

Health and dental benefits were outstanding as well as a pension & 401k.
