Pros

Everyone can create and seize opportunities at TOPdesk and shape their own carreer. Employees can quickly grow in the direction they're interested in, without having to do overtime or being limited by their direct managers. The company is ambitious and offers willing people the freedom to collect to the greater good in a way they see fit.

Cons

The praised freedom at TOPdesk has a negative side as well, namely the lack of clear direction. There are some capable people at top positions, but in general managers seem to lack the experience for the position they're in. Especially the development leadership is below par and it seems no fundamental changes have been made since this was put on the agenda 2 years ago. The state of the product is worrisome which is demotivating to people from both business departments and development at key positions. Luckily TOPdesk is a favored vendor because of their extremely helpful staff, but if nothing changes on the product soon they run the risk to become obsolete.

Advice to Management

Replace the head of development and (temporarily) hire expertise from the outside world to get the department in shape. Be explicit to the department what is not going well and connect consequences for employees structurally not performing well. Being clear what is and isn't okay regarding performance should also fit TOPdesk's culture. You will have to change things to avoid a downward spiral with good experienced personnel leaving because of the current state.

Everyone can create and seize opportunities at TOPdesk and shape their own carreer.

Pros

Flexible working environment with freedom to invest time in projects that inspire and motivate you. Great company to focus on personal development and training. It has a young company culture and very little hierarchy exists, which makes one's opportunities endless

Cons

The freedom can create a feeling of overflowing in possibility. For those of us that struggle to make decisions or to keep an overview of what is going on, it can be difficult to keep track or choose direction. For young professionals who start their first job, it definitely needs some getting used to.

Advice to Management

The management team can come across as indecisive. They say that it is a company wide thing that we need to tackle, but I'd say practice what you preach and start making decisions top-down. It won't harm anyone to have a bit more of a top-down approach

Great company to focus on personal development and training.

Pros

TOPdesk gives opportunities to all employees to develop their carreers, builting your strategy, applying your ideas, with responsabilities and trust. Of course we follow the major strategy but the point is that every ideas are heard and the best always win!

Cons

With so much freedom, a carreer plan is not made and sometimes we feel lost. Even being able to guide our carreer, we need some ideas about the possibilities and plans.
