How is the work/life balance at Technology Services Group UK?

Pros

I was surprised by some of the negative reviews on here and and can only think that they are from people who do/did not have the passion or the talent to succeed at TSG. TSG are huge on personal development and promoting internally - you are actively encouraged to seek out training opportunities which the company will pay for assuming they are relevant. The company also have fairly robust internal training resources and two full time trainers. In my time here (2.5 years) TSG have grown, they have addressed some key complaints regarding pay rises and now have a structured pay rise scheme for personal and company performance. There commitment to flexible working is admirable and in the CEO's own words "we are adults and should be able to manage our own time effectively without micromanagement". some roles demand particular hours but even in those they permit as much flexibility as possible. People with the right attitude get promoted internally, these are not "yes men" but individuals that show passion in their work and champion the customer experience, who aren't afraid to push back if a request is not in the best interests of the customer or the company. People who demonstrate consistent quality in all that they do and treat the whole of TSG as a team working towards a common goal. There are no mindless roles at TSG so do not apply to work here if you are expecting an easy ride but do apply if you are someone who is eager to learn and apply yourself. Expect to be respected but challenged. Expect a good work life balance but for the company to ask a lot of you during your working hours.

Cons

The company has gone through a lot of restructuring since I started here and I would like to see things settle down. Because they do promote internally it can be a little difficult to retain knowledge within a team. I would like to see them go a step further in regards to pay and examine the market on a bi-annual basis for each role then adjust pay accordingly. At the moment if you stay in one role for a few years you do start to fall behind where you could be by switching companies.

Advice to Management

Stick with a structure for more than a year and allow it to bed in and start bearing fruit before you reexamine it. People need time to adjust to change. Keep heading in the right direction and never think you have done enough, if a scheme or benefit will help employees without costing the earth then go for it, the return in morale will be worthwhile.

Expect a good work life balance but for the company to ask a lot of you during your working hours.
