What kind of career opportunities exist at Tesco?

Pros

Exposure to senior leadership, flexibility to work from home, encouraged to take breaks throughout the day, opportunity to work on big and interesting projects, friendly colleagues, great office with a gym, event space and Tesco store on site, wonderful learning opportunities

Cons

Poor salary and bonus, a few disengaged employees with little get up and go to deliver

Advice to Management

Consider reward for internal colleagues who decide to remain at Tesco. External are rewarded a lot better than those who progress within. Continue to listen to the Every Voice Matters results and implement changes e.g. 25 minute meetings and the encouragement to take a break were great additions following the feedback on workload Continue to develop and grow internal talent. There’s lots of great employees benefiting from great learning resources

Why do Tesco employees quit?

Pros

Pay increases for certain hours during a night shift. Generally left to get on with your work Decent space and amenities/facilities for breaks Nice mix of colleagues

Cons

As temporary staff, 3 month contract was abruptly terminated after one 1 month due to seasonal forecasts. 2 breaks (an hr and a half an hour) were good but breaks are unpaid and so earnings decrease despite working unsociable hours Breaks are not enforced so you can potentially end up missing them and not be paid for them

Advice to Management

I was not there long enough to be able to advise managers. I would say to the CEO that Tesco must have made a vast profit over the pandemic and so the treatment of staff on temporary and season work i.e. cutting contracts short abruptly was a greedy tactic, especially given that full time staff were overworked
