What is health insurance like at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital?

Pros

Magnet certification, up to date on latest research/nursing policies & procedures.

Cons

I don't think nurses are paid nearly enough. I can't speak for other departments as far as salary but nurses are the backbone of the entire institution and I don't feel appreciated as a nurse at jefferson. I think the new president is spending way too much money on trying to monopolize Jefferson and buying up every hospital in the area rather than focusing on it's employees. Happy employees lead to happy patients. It's a simple concept. Also I think the health insurance is lousy and I pay for the highest/most premium package.

Advice to Management

Increase wages for nurses. Jefferson receives very acutely ill patients and the nurses are the ones who carry that burden. The unit I work on probably has the highest nurse turnover in the hospital. I am considering leaving myself. If I were paid more, I would likely consider staying.

Also I think the health insurance is lousy and I pay for the highest/most premium package.

Does Thomas Jefferson University Hospital offer dental insurance?

Pros

Pay is better than average. Pension and 403b are one of the best benefits.

Cons

Poor staffing - company stresses safety but then does not staff units well enough to keep them safe. Poor management - cannot retain nurse managers, the avg nurse manager lasts about a year or less. Benefits leave a lot to be desired - you have to use their providers or you pay a lot out of pocket. Dental plan is horrible. Vacation and sick time are earned by hours worked and they lump them together so if you happen to get sick and are out for a week its goodbye vacation. Staffing levels are unsafe - assaults on staff occur very frequently. Management discriminates against older employees and employees who utilize FMLA for medical reasons - they will look for a reason to get rid of you or fabricate one if necessary.

Advice to Management

Recruit and hire better managers who will stay more than a few months. Increase staffing to increase safety and staff morale. Hire nurse managers who are not tyrants and know what they're doing.

Dental plan is horrible.

She also writes you up so that you can not transfer to another unit or If you stand up Employees have been wrongfully fired. They lie to get you fired.
