Does University of Leeds have a pension plan?

Pros

Pay is excellent. Excellent experience of working with a wide variety of people. There are a lot of benefits, pension, good annual leave, bank holiday leave, mental health advice/counselling for staff. They can be very flexible with leave arrangements/childcare etc. Employment is secure, even when on fixed term contracts they will try and keep you within the university using their redeployment system.

Cons

There is little consistency between departments, which can lead to massive miscommunications. I work way above my pay grade and do work I shouldn't be responsible for, which is excellent for my development but I don't get recognition for it, or any reward - just the stress. My role is always changing without any warning. There is a systemic hierarchy in the University, where the lower grades are seen as dispensable and are treated as such. A senior member of staff once clicked his fingers at me to come and make him a cup of coffee. I feel very overworked, and undervalued. I have been told in my annual developmental meeting "You're doing an excellent job, but we can't justify spending money on training you as you're only grade 4, so if you want to progress you'll need to leave and find a new job elsewhere" which, is exactly the opposite of what these developmental meetings are for.

Advice to Management

Treat people with respect regardless of their grade.
