How are the career development opportunities at Wolseley UK?

Pros

Good people, friendly atmosphere, left alone to get on with the job with minimal supervision, remote working was possible even before lockdown.

Cons

Little scope for career development due to small IT dept, no merit pay rises due to increase in experience or hard good quality work, or promotion to role with more responsibility. Bonus scheme was negligible and based on whole companys targets rather than individuals performance. Company targets were never reached, so never remember seeing one of these small bonuses.

Advice to Management

Better grading / pay banding system needed so people can receive individual merit pay awards recognising people taking on new skills or responsibilities, increase in experience of several years, even if staying in same role. After Senior status, there was no further promotion or pay rise offere. A better individual bonus scheme is also needed so people are rewarded for hard / quality work rather than just the current across the board one if the company as a whole reaches its target.

What kind of career opportunities exist at Wolseley UK?

Pros

The share save scheme is a good investment opportunity

Cons

Since all the different Center brands have been merged in to One Wolseley there has as expected been a loss in focus on the pipe side of the business which has seen the industrial team reduced even further. All the changes to the UK structure over the last few years had been to make it more inline with the USA, but have not worked. With a demerger due there have been a lot of redundancy over the last year which has stripped a lot of experience from the company adding to those that have left as a result of the changes made.

Advice to Management

Turn the lights off and post the keys through the letterbox

How are promotions handled at Wolseley UK?

Pros

Good pension scheme and bonus

Cons

Do not care for mental state of employees Do not follow HR processes or policies Very quick to point the blame elsewhere No individual objectives put in place for progression, payrises or promotions

Advice to Management

Ask why someone's work/form may have dipped - try to help and recognise when staff are struggling Be transparent with staff If working from home is a 'benefit' treat it like a benefit not a privilege
