What is health insurance like at Zego?

Pros

The people are great, friendly & generally very supportive. Freedom to manage your own workload & responsibilities. Fast paced, often having the opportunity to get involved in different projects across the business. It can often be quite chaotic but that is typical to start up world. Learn on the job approach (which doesnt suit everyone) but I enjoy working in this way. My team was fortunate to have a great manager but if you didnt then you might not get the same experience as the company offers very little training & development.

Cons

Zego had so much potential as a company before COVID. They talk alot about their core values, one being "we are in this together" but ultimately when its people needed them most for security & support Zego made the decision to make redundancies across the company within the first few weeks of the pandemic hitting & without offering furlough options first. They chose to put its investors & senior management first, a decision I think will affect them longer than they realise. For this reason I would not recommend Zego to anyone looking for job security or a company with senior management that really values its people. Extremely poor benefits (No private health insurance, basic pension & maternity / paternity pay) Zego have been talking about improving these for awhile but nothing has materialised.

Advice to Management

Please remember that people are what make your business what it is today. Listen to them, learn from them and support them as they are your most important asset.

Does Zego offer massages?

Pros

Excellent culture which is supported by people who aren't afraid to challenge the status-quo and get involved with senior leadership in shaping Zego and suggesting the direction where the company is heading in. Individuals communicate well in general, and we use pretty modern and easy-to-use tooling to get work done. There's office dogs. Benefits include free snacks, quarterly team socials, quarterly massages, personal therapy sessions, annual company socials. On the tech side, the work is rewarding and feels like you're always contributing something valuable. Additionally, there's plenty of room to grow and learn new languages and concepts, as well as cementing an understanding of the insurance industry.

Cons

Could be some slightly better benefits like having a gym membership. Direction of work can be a bit fragmented as of March 2020 which is due mainly to the organisation growing so quickly and trialing new processes to be put in place.

Advice to Management

Management really cares about the people in the business and building something revolutionary. Keep it up.

How are the career development opportunities at Zego?

Pros

Zego is growing incredibly quickly and with that it can be a very fast paced and fun environment to work in. There is generally a good energy and buzz throughout the office which comes naturally with the drive and excitement of a rapidly growing company. There are opportunities for personal growth in terms of career development. I have started my career in compliance at Zego and I have the support of my manager to help me grow which is amazing. There is a real sense that personal wellbeing at work (and outside of work) is acknowledged and taken into account. Such as committing to the Sanctus pledge (regarding mental health at work).

Cons

You need to be ready to hustle as this is a high growth start up and the workload and pace of work can be intense.

Advice to Management

As we continue to scale it's going to be important to make sure that decisions and culture are always in line with the best end result for the customer.

What kind of career opportunities exist at Zego?

Pros

They are building something from the ground up, if you are able to find your part in that, its a great opportunity to grow and develop with the company.

Cons

Not a massively brand in tech, sometimes can be limited by the salaries that we are able to offer, however shares are available, but unfortunately that does not mean too much for people looking for a higher base salary.

What is the feeling of job security at Zego?

Pros

It's a really nice place to work, but Zego went back on their values big time when the coronavirus happened. They talk very much on "we're in this together" value but did not even offer us furlough which would cost nothing and let me pay bills at least, instead gave us options of voluntary redundancy with a nice payment or if not then just regular redundancy. For my own situation I would prefer to be furloughed because I needed a job and I went through stress after being let go straight away. I will not say which option I took but really disappointed to see my old job being advertised just a couple of months later and in my opinion made me question what they used the redundancy for.

Cons

Honesty I think I had a great job but will never recommend to somebody who needs financial security to work there because it could end quickly like with me.

Advice to Management

I enjoyed it there a lot until I was left to find a job in the middle of a crisis. Try to think about your own values next time or change them if you don't believe in them.
