What is the salary like at Zonal?

Pros

Free breakfast if you work at head office, I’ve left the company, PR excel at making out this is a great family company

Cons

Too many to mention , Service managers no idea what is going on, HR department wouldn’t even know there is one as nothing is ever sent apart from discount offers for tech Expected to give 2 hours a day travelling time , hour in the morning and evening which isn’t paid, low pay for london

Advice to Management

No point to give advice, All engineers know the improvement notices you give out to all the engineers are pointless payback punishments for talking bad to a manager or HR - its just a way to punish you and take away your bonus, funny how no one actually fails them and are put on a disciplinary? Unions would have a filed day And stop writing fake reviews to bump up your score

What is it like working with clients or customers at Zonal?

Pros

- Low deadline pressure. - Time set aside for relevant study, refactoring, hack days. - Flexible working hours. - Pen-testing training workshops run by security team. - Very customer-focussed, customers are loyal and have long-standing relationships with the company.

Cons

- No company culture, dull work environment/office. - No organised or standardised documentation, if you don't know how to configure something you need to find whoever has been maintaining it for the last decade. - No training on how to use flagship hardware and software. - All product design decisions made by product owners or developers so key software is barely useable. No qualified in-house designers. - Middle-management churn means processes always in flux. - Zero visible opportunity for career progression. No standardised appraisal process or recognition for taking initiative. - Poor communication between teams and from management. - Benefits package mediocre.

Advice to Management

Free cornflakes doesn't make you an exciting tech company. Being constantly reminded you're part of a family business isn't a substitute for actually feeling valued.
