I worked at PPL as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very good people, good culture - very music and media oriented - which isn't a suprise

    Cons

Process and communications can be a bit week at a middle management level so this can create a gap between senior management and the guys on the ground

    Advice to Management

Make sure that management are working as hard as the guys on the ground - open up more channels for getting bright ideas from the "coal face"

I worked at PPL as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Learned a lot of skills, really nice and helpful coworkers

    Cons

A lot of the work related to what I was doing was contracted out instead of done in house, because there was just so much crucial work to be done.

IT department is relatively flat in hierarchy. It's easy to get to know the execs. People quickly understand your role in the job.

    Cons

Sometimes work devolves into production support and business driven initiatives, which don't always match up with the team's immediate/long-term needs.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

The department I worked in was great. Everyone worked together to accomplish the goals in completing capital projects on time and in schedule

    Cons

Change in Business plans made the work unbearable eventually leading to my lay-off. Business plans changed for the company unfortunately for me but it might be good for the company in the long run and of course for the investors

    Advice to Management

A better job and cooperation between company entities in order to transfer people and skills versus lay-offs
