Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Abbott Laboratories (Des Plaines, IL (US)) in August 2013.

Interview

Contacted by a recruiter and resume submitted to the hiring manager. Phone screen with a hiring manager about 1 week after my resume was submitted. In person panel interview with two hiring managers and 4 scientists. Then waited over 4 weeks before hearing that they couldn't hire for 4-5 months.

Interview Questions

  • The questions asked in the phone screen and panel interview were mostly technical to find out the level of skills and knowledge that the candidate has, there were some behavioral questions, and a lot of discussion about the resume (walk me through your resume and let's discuss some interesting things about your experiences). All are reasonable and routine questions.   Answer Question

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Abbott Laboratories (Abbott Park, IL (US)) in May 2014.

    Interview

The entire process took about 10 weeks from applying to offer. I applied online and received a phone call about a week later to set up a phone interview. The phone interview lasted 10 minutes. Questions were basic- why work for Abbott, am I willing to relocate etc. About a week later I received an email scheduling me for an in person interview. This interview consisted of two panel interviews 30 minutes each with directors and program managers. About a week later I got a call saying that I made it to the next round of interviews. The 2nd in person interview was about half a day. I had 4-5 interviews with upper level scientists about 30 mins each followed by a 1 hr seminar about my previous research. I received a call about 3 weeks later informing me that I had been offered the position.

    Interview Questions

    • I had a lot of questions about conflict resolution. How do you respond if someone gets angry and yells at you?   Answer Question

    Negotiation

I did negotiate. It was pretty straight forward. The initial base salary offered was slightly lower but I got them to come up to the salary it wanted.

The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Abbott Laboratories.

    Interview

This was a weird experience. Soon after the interview they asked for my references but then essentially disappeared. I had to follow up 5 times (no kidding), including a call. It took them about a month to check my references then 2 months after the interview they told me that I didn't get the job, but only after I emailed. I asked for feedback as to what happened but got none. Very poorly organized company. Beware

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Abbott Laboratories (Des Plaines, IL (US)).

    Interview

Was referred by another candidate and underwent an informal in-person interview, and on-site interview. The on-site interview started very disorganized. I waited in lobby for someone to pick me up to bring me to the seminar room for my presentation. In the end, the hiring manager came 10 minutes late. The interview was all day long, from 9-4pm, with a 1 hour seminar followed by one-on-one and group interviews through the end of the day.
