      Graduate Software Developer Interview

      9 Mar 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Cumbernauld, Scotland
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Aperta (Cumbernauld, Scotland) in Jun 2024

      Interview

I completed only the first stage of the interview process, which was an online technical test followed by an interview a few days later. The technical test was reasonable, consisting of a few entry level questions across the different languages you would be expected to use/learn in the role. The subsequent interview was pleasant and did not take too long. The interviewer just went over my test results and asked how I felt about them, before asking me about my experience in terms of projects, uni, internships etc. I received an email the next morning inviting me to the second stage, a longer, in person interview. I did intend to go to this interview, however I received another job offer which I chose to accept, so at this point I chose to withdraw my application.

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Cumbernauld, Scotland
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Aperta (Cumbernauld, Scotland) in Apr 2024

      Interview

Initial video interview as is standard with these positions then onto a second stage, in-person interview. Between applying, the initial interview and the in-person interview, this part of the process was relatively quick. The second stage interview was gruelling, as the format was highly unusual, with me stationed in a single room while person after person (5 in total) came in, each with a copy of my CV. For each of these micro interviews we chatted about my CV, previous experience, current work, hobbies and did some technical questions/assessments. One very unusual thing about the coding questions was that it was pen/paper, rather than in an IDE (???). These questions were fairly interesting, but very exhausting by the third iteration, with still 2 more to go. All interviewers were very personable, bar one. Another reviewer mentioned that one interviewer did not greet the interviewee or say hi, I think I know which one that would have been and I found him extremely rude. He remarked that my work experience was strange, commented that my choice of University was "weird" (direct quote), made faces during our conversation and was generally very sarcastic with his remarks- highly unprofessional for an interview. An overall negative experience. I would advise others to prioritise interviewing elsewhere first, but with how the market for graduates in this field is, we will all just take what we can, of course.

      Question 1

Technical: General programming questions combined with an interesting banking-related scenario. Very much enjoyed that part of the interview. General: Typical interview questions, with going over your CV, discussing personality, etc, but times this by 5, as 5 people will ask you these questions in sequence.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Aperta (Cumbernauld, Scotland) in Apr 2023

      Interview

Pretty straightforward technical test online covering some basic comp sci concepts like oop, SQL and a question in c. The next stage was an online call with one of the devs, quite informal and just going over your cv. Final round was a pretty long 3-4 hour interview on site. This compromised of essentially 5 mini interviews with a member of senior staff, each consisting of going over your cv and then a short technical question. a bit grueling to be going over your cv 5 times to be honest! Nice bunch of people though.

      Question 1

The technical interview qs were all fairly common questions, but you had to write your solution down in pseudocode.
