Question 1
What is an acceptable attendance rate for the school?
I applied online. I interviewed at BOLD Charter School (New York, NY) in Dec 2025
Interview
Pros: Clear mission statement
Cons: Extremely high-friction recruitment process. Required over 30 hours of strategic project work for a Director-level position. After reaching the final round, I was ghosted for over a month. When I followed up via phone, I was promised a return call that never occurred.
Advice to Management: Respect the professional time of your candidates. Candidates should be aware of the high-friction, low-communication process, and consider alternative charter school networks that treat candidates with respect.
I talked to their head of talent, then did a take-home exercise that was three parts, and then I spoke with their CEO. This process (the two conversations and project) took one month. While everyone seemed kind, I left with a bad taste in my mouth due to the extensive hiring project that took several hours and then was never discussed, referred to, or given feedback to at any point again. Additionally, when I was rejected it was via a three sentence template email which felt very impersonal and disrespectful of the time and effort I'd put into the process by that stage. A little more thoughtfulness around communications would go a long way, and if they're going to ask for a hiring project that is so lengthy, it should be discussed or referred to in some way during the process.
