I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Booz Allen Hamilton (Washington, DC) in Apr 2011
Interview
1) Employee Referral
2) Phone Screening - I had 2 screenings for the same position due to a lack of BAH organization, sloppy
3) In person interview: 3 rounds with 6 total interviewers
In person interview -- 3 rounds. First round was so bad, I later realized it was probably on purpose or just extremely unorganized. 3 interviewers, all showed up separately, but the first insisted I start, so I gave the subsequent 2 arrivals 15 second briefings and continued. The questions during that interview didn't make sense, the last arrival couldn't even figure out my current employer after multiple questions. 'No, no, I'm a consultant employed by XYZ and my project is for ABC Government Agency' -- was it possible this lady didn't understand the premise of consulting? So sloppy and unimpressed.
The remaining 2 rounds were with competent interviewers and went fine.

The process is competitive and has many steps to it. They really care about how you would fit within the team along with your skills and experience. You do end up meeting quite a few people as you move through the process.
