      Principal Software Engineer Interview

      19 Dec 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Colorado City, CO
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Clarity Financial (Colorado City, CO) in Dec 2024

      Interview

      - You may receive a personalized video message from the CTO on LinkedIn inviting you to discuss the role... - You may agree to a call, and learn that the CTO is excited that you're interested... - You may have that call and do well, such that you are passed to their Director of Engineering... - You may have a call with their Director of Engineering and do well, such that you're invited to the next round, which is their take-home coding assignment... - You may take that coding assignment and go above and beyond the requirements... delivering a fully functional and deployable frontend, backend, and database.. coded and designed using _their_ stack, all documented via READMEs and Swagger... all containerized and launchable via one command, of course. (Debuggable too with the included VSCode launch.json) - You may deliver it early, via github, along with an accompanying presentation describing the project, its architecture, and future possibilities... - You may then attend the 1hr 30 min interview with two team members (and the Director of Engineering again) to go through the project... -- ...in which you may be asked to switch up your code a little, live during the call, and then accomplish it in seconds... -- ... in which you'll state how the system could be linted, tested, built, security scanned, and blue-green deployed via CI/CD, along with addressing all monitoring, logging, and autoscaling concerns. - You may get asked questions during said interview about future ways to expand the architecture - and literally have had each one _already present_ in your final "thoughts for the future" slide. ... and then, you may find out they pass, due to what was stated as "micro concerns," with the example being that you were too "tangentially conversational." I hope this person is not you, because it was me! -- The guys were nice enough, but extremely quiet during the whole presentation, which, to be honest, made me a bit uncomfortable. Probably why I ended up wanting to fill some of the dead silence with, well, conversation! :D They're in an early stage of growth and from what I could tell, will definitely need someone to help them redesign their architecture and infra for scale. Really was hoping that person could have been me. Good luck to you, future Clarity interviewer.. I hope this helps you!
