Associate Lecturer Interview

Describe an experience of handling a challenging student in

a class (eg a student who expresses racist views)

Interview Answer

1 Answer

I never let that situation arise. Before beginning any course of study with a new group of students I spell out the 'house rules'. Anybody voicing sexist, racist, homophobic, etc opinions will be shown the door for good. I make it clear to my employers that this will be the case, too. No second chances, no quarter. if anybody harbours such attitudes, s/he has to keep them entirely private, and of course is entitled to change courses if this rule is impossible for him/her to observe.
I've never had any trouble on that score, in well over 3 decades of teaching.
