      Software Engineer Interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at DragonWave in Feb 2023

      Interview

As an applicant who went in for an interview for a Software Engineer position at DragonWave, the process was characterized by organization, professionalism, and technical applicability. The process started with the first phone screening, where I was queried about my background, technical expertise, and past experiences applicable to software development. The recruiter also gave a brief overview of the company and expectations of the position. The next stage involved a technical assessment, which evaluated my problem-solving skills, coding skills, and understanding of software engineering concepts. I was given algorithmic problems and was expected to demonstrate my coding skills in a programming language of my choice. The issues were fair, focusing on data structures, algorithms, and system design. In the on-site interview, I was able to meet some of the team members, which included senior engineers and one hiring manager. They asked me questions about my past projects, specifically about my background in networking protocols, embedded systems, and real-time software solutions, since DragonWave is focused on high-capacity packet microwave technology. The conversations were in-depth, but the interviewers were pleasant and provided hints when they thought it was appropriate. One of the impressive aspects of the interview process was the problem-solving session, in which I was paired with one of the team members to work on a live problem. Through this exercise, I gained a better understanding of the company culture and how they approach technical issues. In all, the interviewing process at DragonWave was rigorous and fair. The process was well-choreographed and the group was personable and friendly. I liked the emphasis on both technical proficiency and teamwork that made the process valuable regardless of outcome. I would highly suggest this as a location to seek consideration for individuals with strong software development skills and interest in telecommunications.
