      Copywriter Interview

      11 Sept 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Richmond, VA
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at EAB (Richmond, VA)

      Interview

I applied for the position and received a call for a phone screen. In the phone screen, I was given detailed information about the position, the recruiter asked about myself, and I was told what the range for the salary was. After the phone screen, I was brought in for an interview. I was told it would take 3 hours, but it lasted 1.5 hours. There was a face to face, a writing prompt and a tour. I was given an additional phone interview which was requested and scheduled within an hour. I received an offer shortly thereafter. It was well under the range I was told in the phone screen. When I tried to negotiate, the recruiter I worked with was on vacation. I talked to someone else and was followed up with an email from an assistant who said the money for my position was allotted to another position so they could not give me a salary in the range I was told. After the disappointment, but careful consideration, I accepted.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at EAB (Washington, DC) in Aug 2024

      Interview

I applied to EAB online in August of 2024 and was then given and aptitude test to take, which took around 30 minutes to complete. The next week I had a phone interview with a very unenthusiastic recruiter who seemed to be reading from a script the entire time, which a left me with a very poor impression. I was also asked to describe my academic history rather than my work history in depth which seemed not very relevant given I am five years removed from college. After about two weeks of not hearing anything I received an email telling me EAB was not moving forward with my candidacy. My advice: Train recruiters to do more than simply go through the motions during interviews as this makes it very hard for a candidate to feel comfortable and show enthusiasm.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at EAB (Richmond, VA) in Jan 2020

      Interview

Applied online in early December for a different position at EAB, then took the personality/skills quiz via email. I spoke to their HR/talent person over the phone the following week, who excitedly told me about the copywriter position, and even asked for salary range and when I could potentially start. I sent her 3-4 samples of my writing. The in-person interview was scheduled almost a month later due to winter holidays and staff going on vacation. My in-person interview consisted of being interviewed by 4 people - two directors, retaking the skills quiz, and the art and web directors. I thought I did pretty well, having been conversational and friendly the whole time, and it seemed like I was a great candidate. However, I didn't get a response on when I'd hear back about the position. I followed up two weeks later with the initial HR person I talked to via email, just asking when I could expect to hear back. Three weeks after my 2nd interview, I received the rejection email that said that there wasn't "mutual alignment" between me and the position. Which was weird, since everyone who interviewed me seemed to like me, and the recruiter had even jumped the gun by asking for start dates, salary, and had even namedropped my former coworker. I might apply to EAB again in the future, but I am very disappointed in the long waiting period and the number of samples I sent, which makes me wonder if they just wanted free samples of work without hiring me - the job position is still open, which reflects more on the company than individual candidates.
