      Process Manager Interview

      13 Apr 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Diego, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Encore Capital Group (San Diego, CA) in Mar 2012

      Interview

I was initially contacted by one of Encore's senior recruiters regarding the position. We discussed the job requirements and my experience and he stated he felt my background closely matches what the hiring manager was looking for and he would be interested in speaking to me. It took six days for the recruiter to get back to me to schedule a phone interview. I had a phone interview with the hiring manager the next day. I felt I was a perfect fit for the position as I had extensive experience with the same type of work in a different field. I did not receive any immediate feedback from the recruiter upon completion of the phone interview. One week later I received an email notifying me of the scheduled interview. No phone call from recruiter, just an email that contained the schedule of the 3 and 1/2 hour, five manager "power interview." Upon arrival, I felt very comfortable as the receptionist was helpful and friendly. My first interview was with a manager who would be a peer of the candidate. She asked relevant questions that would indicate whether the candidate was a good fit or not. Immediately after her interview, the hiring manager came for his scheduled interview. After that, there three more interviews from managers in different departments. One gave me a break even business case on hotel occupancy with fixed and variable expenses. All in all, the process was grueling. I do not see how it is necessary to spend three hours with a candidate to determine if they are a good fit or not. Furthermore, is the hiring manager not capable of determining if the candidate will work well with other departments? Many of the questions asked were not relevant to the position, the job duties of the position were vague, and it was hard to understand the rationale of the interview as a whole. Three of the interviewers were very personable and I thought I did great. Two were rather dry and impersonal. I met all the requirements for the job, I thought the interviews went great, I answered the business case correctly. Two weeks passed and I still heard nothing back. I contacted the senior recruiter to inform him that I was still interested in the job and if he needed any information to please let me know, also I wanted to know the status of the selection process. No response. This is very unprofessional, at least give someone that put in the time, effort and patience with such a grueling interview process the common courtesy to let them know if they got the job or not. The job market is tough, I am working with numerous recruiters and I put them on hold because I wanted this job and thought I had a great chance to get it. It has been a month now so I am sure I will not hear anything. It is hard to understand why a company that has such a rigid interview process does not adhere to a notification process to candidates on status of applications. It is unethical. I gave the interview experience a negative rating because of the final outcome. At least send an email thanking the candidate for their time but they are moving forward with other candidates. I have since obtained a much better position with a much better company with higher pay. I am glad I did not get this job.
