      Technical Writer Interview

      21 Sept 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Epic in Aug 2012

      Interview

Originally I applied for an Administrative position. I submitted my resume, then got an email inviting me to take an online personality test. That took a half hour and was really annoying. They had some math problems mixed in with what I think are some pretty ridiculous questions. I got an email saying they'd look things over and let me know if I was a fit. A few days later I got an email from someone in their HR department, who said they'd be there to help me through the interview process. Epic decided to interview me for a Technical Writer position, which they thought I might be a better fit. They scheduled a phone interview with me. After that was scheduled I got another email telling me I had to do a writing exercise. They sent me a link, and I was to go to the sight and log in, upon doing so I would receive my timed writing assignment. I completed the assignment in the hour time. I actually enjoyed it but wondered how this would help with a Technical Writing position seeing that to me it had nothing to do with that. My phone interview turned out to be just rehashing your entire job history, I mean everything. The woman who was interviewing me on the phone said they usually made decisions within the week about the next step. But that it may take up to 2 weeks. I asked if there would be any feedback regarding the writing assignment. She said possible, if they were having me proceed with the interview process. Then she mentioned how she sometimes graded the writing assignments. So cut to 2 weeks later, I had to email my HR rep and ask if there was any progress being made. I explained what I had been told on the phone about it taking up to 2 weeks, could she let me know? I then received there generic email they send saying they "appreciate all of your achievements" but but didn't think I was a right fit. Which is the same email my husband had gotten after he sent his resume. This made me a little upset, so I emailed back asking for any kind of feedback, especially about the writing assignment. I actually got a response, just saying Epic isn't allowed to explain why they've chosen to move forward with a candidate or not to "protect the integrity" of their hiring process. I was annoyed that I was being turned down for a job that I hadn't even applied for, but I think I would have gotten the same response if they had interviewed me for an Admin position. I hear they like young candidates, especially those who are fresh out of college. my husband and I are a lot more seasoned than that. Maybe that didn't play a roll, but I've heard from people here in Madison that it most likely does. So that is my experience.

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Epic (Madison, WI) in Jun 2020

      Interview

I had a phone interview about the position and the company as a whole and then performed an online assessment. The phone interview was very helpful and informative, but the assessment felt wholly unrelated to the position as it was described to me.
