      Consultant Interview

      16 Jul 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at FactSet (London, England) in Jul 2013

      Interview

I came in and had aprx. 40 minute interview with one member of staff. Very relaxed interview, not what I was expected. Many of the topics I was asked were covered in this forum, but to give a brief overview: Detailed analysis of my CV - asked alot about my university projects, if like me you don't come from a finance background, think about the best way to explain complex ideas to someone who doesn't know anything about the subject. Why Factset Why Consultant Why Finance Competitors and advantages over them IB v IM, and how facset will be used differently for each client. Question about what I would do if two clients phoned one after another asking for something to be done quickly. What are the most advanced features I can use in excel (look into macros) Then I had 3 tests, one finance, one maths and one excel. Excel was basic, look at conditional formatting, vlookup, pivot table, max, min, bar chart etc. Maths was easy, algebra and some problem solving questions. I found finance a bit tough as I didn't do it at degree. For those of you coming from non-finance background I would look at all the MoneyWeek videos on youtube, I found them quite useful (they definitely helped me for this test). All the questions where you need to calculate you are given formula, the maths bit is easy. There was a question about why central banks change interest rates, is it due to inflation. I didn't end up getting through because 'knowledge of FactSet was poor along with knowledge of the role....interest in finance didn't come across' I did actually do a lot of research on the company beforehand, but not knowing loads about finance screwed me over lol Anyone else in a similar position to me, I would recommend you find someone in this sector to talk to and find out ALOT of information about how/why/what services like Bloomberg are used for. I had answers to these questions, but I didn't have the appropriate depth in them.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Facset offers choice in features to its users whereas Bloomberg is a one stop shop. Can you give the disadvantages of Factset's approach.

      Interview

Straightforward. You begin with a telephone interview, followed by a group interview with you work on a group project and share a talent/skill you possess. If successful, you will then go through several rounds of interview with hiring manager and other senior stakeholders.

      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at FactSet (London, England)

      Interview

There was an initial virtual interview with HR and then an interview the the manager from the US. HR lady was friendly and was fast to respond to emails. The manager didn’t seem experienced in interviewing, he said so himself and went for someone that didn’t require onboarding training. He said he doesn’t expect knowledge on equity when being quizzed on it but yet the reason for not getting the role was lack of knowledge on it. Was not pleased with this misleading behaviour. The decision felt rushed as they only gave a reply once I emailed so felt like they already had the candidate chosen.
