I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Granite Telecommunications (Quincy, MA) in Jul 2019
Interview
The worst interview session I have ever had! HR was extremely unprofessional and rude.
A Boston based temp agency set up my interview with Granite. This took a few weeks and I was told to prepare for the interview with questions the temp agency provided. Granite had told them what they want to hear from candidates, thus the temp agency basically told me what to say to get hired. I told the temp agency that I had 2 weeks left to graduate officially, but I could start working immediately, as i was taking a night class. The agency assured me that was not a problem as many expected graduates start applying and interviewing for jobs before they finish school and it is a fairly common practice. Granite was also informed of this and they still gave me an interview appointment.
The day of the interview, the temp agency called me to practice some of the questions for the interview. Then I went to Granite in Quincy, MA to meet two representatives from HR and the Team Leaders of the department they were hiring for. The first part of the interview went fine. One person was reading basic interview questions off a piece of paper, while the other was writing down my responses. It was clear both of them were inexperienced as their understanding of the role and its department was almost non existent. I had researched the position really well so I asked them some great questions that they told me to ask the team leaders who I will be meeting next. Other than that the interview went well and they told me they will go get the team leaders. After 5 minutes of waiting, one of the HR representative back came in and told me they cannot continue with the interview because I have not graduated yet and he asked me leave. I told him again that I was graduating in 2 weeks and the positions start date was far from that hence why is this a problem. He was still adamant and told me I could not meet the team leaders as one of the requirements of the job was not met. He then escorted me out of the building, and told me to apply again in 2 weeks.
So that was my interview experience with Granite which shows what a mess the HR department is and how unprofessional the staff is. I had read the bad reviews on Glassdoor before going and that should have been enough for me to know this company was not right for me. So the first encounter with Granite basically summed up everything that was said in the reviews online.
