      Graphic Designer Interview

      6 Oct 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Harris Media (Austin, TX)

      Interview

Oh boy, where to begin. The interview was pretty easy, as it was done over zoom call with the head of the design department. Once the interview was over, I was told I would have time to email them with a salary number, and any other questions I had, before proceeding with the process. However, it hadn't even been over 5 hours after the interview when I received an email with an offer letter and if I had any renegotiations, which I did. First, the job I applied for was for a "Digital Designer" in the company (and how it was being advertised all over Indeed) and the contract listed it as "Graphic Designer" (which is a completely different role). Second, I hadn't even given them a number regarding my salary and they had already made one for me, which was an insanely low number, which meant I was either going to have to pick up extra work on the side or barely scrape by. My guess is they changed the job title on purpose so they wouldn't have to pay a reasonable salary required for the role they were advertising. So, already 2 red flags for me. And lastly, once I spoke to them about budging a little bit on the salary and title, I was asked when I could start, to which I answered in 2 weeks. And that was the last time they ever spoke to me for a while. Not only was I never given the opportunity to answer these questions prior to being given a contract, but they completely stopped all contact with me once this came up. I emailed them several times over a span of a week and once they got back to me, giving me countless excuses as to why they hadn't be able to "answer" my email, they redacted the offer and decided to not proceed any further with me. I was absolutely shocked and confused as to what had happened that led to all of these events happening, but they forever ruined their reputation in my eyes and came off EXTREMELY unprofessional. They're the type of company that tries to get away with underpaying their employees, overworking them, and only handling situations in a way that benefits them and only them. Come to find out, after reading the terrible reviews this company has, all of the negative reviews are 100% true and I am so glad things happened how they did and I was saved from working at such a terrible and unprofessional place. I mean, what kind of company handles interviews THIS BADLY? Offering a contract before finalizing details, purposely ignores the candidate for days, and then take the offer away without any explanation? My advice: never, EVER apply to work here.
