I had a phone "interview" where the recruiter told horror stories about his time in the classroom with "hoodlum" students. I was invited to an in-person interview where I was surprised to find four people prepared to ask me a variety of questions. We took a tour of the facility, and at the end of the interview I was told I'd hear something by the end of the week. Three weeks later, I got an email that they selected a candidate "whose background most closely matches our specific requirements for this role." Based on the interview questions I was asked, I imagine that that candidate was male.
