I applied online, got no notification for two weeks, not even acknowledgement of receipt. I googled the HR office in NYC and sent my resume directly to that office. I immediately got a call and set up a phone interview for the next day. It went very well and within two days, I had another phone interview with the office that was hiring.. The lady was very nice and pleasant. I walked her through my resume, explained why I wanted to work for LivePerson.
I then went in for a panel interview the following week, again very positive. The three interviewers had a set of interview questions. Quite easy, nothing unusual. I left feeling very confident about a pending offer. My only concern at that point was my start date and salary. Something I wish recruiters would say from the beginning of the interview process so we do not waste each other's time. It is my understanding that being the first to broach the salary subject is frowned up by recruiters.
Anyway, I heard nothing for three weeks after that final panel interview. I emailed the hiring office, and the one in NY, nothing. After another week of no word, I called one of the interviewer's personal phone who had called me from her mobile phone for the initial phone interview :). Obviously caught her off guard so she awkwardly apologized for not getting back with me in a timely manner. Said she was still interviewing for the role (a month after I interviewed with her, okay sure!). The next day, I got a call from the NYC office telling me I was great, they were impressed but felt that I was overqualified for the position. Yes, months later! I was deemed overqualified.
You would think they would have dismissed me from the initial phone interview. I took a day off, no pay from my current job to go to the final panel interview. I was very disappointed to say the least.
I remained professional and checked back with them 2-3 weeks later like they asked me to but no one ever responded.
