I had some reservations after applying for a Data Scientist position, receiving an invitation for an initial interview, and then the day before the interview I received a rejection letter. I immediately emailed HR and I received a generic "disregard email, we are still having our interview tomorrow" response; turns out they changed the scope of the position, and even the actual position title.
The initial interview went well, HR didn't show up but the direct manager did. It was wonderful getting to know him, I felt the interview went well. He invited me to complete an Excel analysis with a 5-minute presentation, as well as a small SQL challenge (which I appreciated being able to do on my own time, not sitting in front of a panel for hours).
However, the process became muddled and disjointed after that initial interview. I had a secondary interview a week later, which, again, I thought went extremely well. We all had a great conversation, I got to present my data live, answer some questions, etc. Yet, when I asked about pay (this was about the 3rd or 4th time I asked during the entire process) I was met with "We are competitive, but have to align internally before we can discuss externally" every time I asked. Nothing about pay / salary is transparent at this company, and when asked, they deflect.
It has now been over 40 days since our last communication in which I was told it would only be a week or two with updates.
While I had high hopes for this company and the position, I cannot in good faith recommend them to anyone I know within the tech field. I wish LunaJoy nothing but the best in its future endeavors as we need more mental health companies, especially geared towards women, in this country; but they need to take a long, deep look into their hiring process or they are not going to get the best talent to help propel them further into their expansion.
