Talk to a supervisor with a grant. He or she will let you know if there is a position available. They have a lot of work as McMaster is has been good at developing funding opportunities in the past.
The interview was a discussion with the future immediate advisor. It covered both research skills and student supervision in details. It was not overly formal and quite friendly. I was able to ask information about the area.
