      Software Developer Interview

      19 Mar 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at MeridianLink (Los Angeles, CA) in Mar 2015

      Interview

I submitted the application through university website. Then they sent me a problem to finish. I send it back and they contact me to arrange a phone interview. The schedule were changed more than 3 times. Then they called me for phone interview. The most ridiculous thing happened to me then.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

One problem to finish as soon as possible: void remove(int arr[], int index[]), the arr and index are sorted, remove the corresponding value of the index from the arr.
      Answer question

      Question 2

The most ridiculous part then comes to the phone interview. The interviewer asked me questions about my undergraduate courses. The problem is related to linear algebra: How to tell a square matrix has a reverse matrix. I said I forgot it, that is five years ago. He said think about him, it has been 13 years since he was away from university. I said I took it in another language not English, and the terminology is not the same. I can pick it up very quickly if needed and I can translate it into English, he said It is no use of me if I cannot communicate with them in English. I argued back with that I just cannot remember what it is, but the ability to learn new things matters more. He said he just want to test the fundamentals of what I have learned, if I understand it thoroughly, I will not forget it. I said if you think about it in another way... He stopped me with no, he will not. And he will end this conversation because I am not suitable for a team work. And wish me a good future, and hang up the phone within 3 seconds. I did not even have time to say thank you! I learned a lesson from this interview: never argue back with your interviewer. He can hang up the phone whenever he can. That is kind of a power of empire. Also, I learned that not a single evaluation system is able to evaluate your ability except you. When I heard that I am not suitable for a team work, I was really sad. I have no idea that a company can really do this to their interviewee? People don't judge others in a way like this. I will move on to the future ignoring what he said to me. I am a grown-up not a kid. I need a reason to convince me if we were working in a team. That's it. If you don't convince me, I will argue with you, because we are in a team, and we are not working as a single person. If you argue back with no logic flow. I will convince you with mine. Clearly, this was killed by an empire, not a team work principle. This is actually the fact. We are working for other people, not ourselves. If you have your own company, you will have the power to recruit the people you think is suitable. That's it. But I hope that one day, when I was in a position like this interviewer, I will come back to read this article.

We’re sorry your interview experience was less than positive. MeridianLink hires developers from both the United States and other countries. We look for a mix of strong coding ability, integrity and responsibility, and ability to collaborate and work on a team. At MeridianLink, it’s important to share ideas, and also important to understand that not all shared ideas will be implemented. We wish you success in your future endeavors.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at MeridianLink (Missouri City, TX) in Oct 2023

      Interview

Had multiple interviews, the first one was a preliminary reach out, while the second was a technical interview. What offended me was that they had the audacity to ask me to rate their interview through a questionnaire, afterwhich I recieved an email saying I was declined. When I tried to reach back out to see why they didn't respond. If you're going to have the gall to ask me how you did, at least return the courtesy.

      Question 1

The hardest question asked was how to reverse an array without loops. They didn't say recursion and wanted you to step to that answer yourself.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at MeridianLink

      Interview

There was a phone interview with HR followed by an interview with the team then a technical interview. It took over a month to set up the follow-up interview with a lot of confusion with the HR people and figuring put the timezones for the calls. The interviews got canceled and rescheduled at least 4 times (2 times the interviewer just no-showed). One of the interviewers joined the call late and was very rude. Overall it was a terrible experience and should not have bothered continuing with this process
