Straightforward. Introduce yourself. Technical questions; why do you want to work in Japan? What’s your current visa status? Do you have any previous teaching experience? Then I did some teaching demonstration.
- Why Japan? What do you know about Nova? Are you ok to work weekends?

I interviewed at NOVA (Japan)
The interview was very interesting and informative. It gave me a lot of information about the company and what I will be expected to do. It was also very different from the interviews I have done in the past. The recruiter put me at ease and my nerves calmed through the interview.
- What experience do I have

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at NOVA (Japan) (London, England) in Jun 2022
It was initially through emails, but the actual interview was online, through Skype. I received feedback 3 days later via email. Nothing hectic, just be sociable and know what you want.
- Would you be able to adjust to the demands of the company?

I interviewed at NOVA (Japan)
It was a fairly easy process nothing too complicated. From submitting your documents and other materials such as covering letters and documents. After doing all of that they scheduled me an online ZOOM interview. During the online ZOOM interview, the person who was doing the interview was based in UK, even though I was living in the Japan at the time. My first impressions of the interviewer were not that good because he was dressed very casually, usually Nova employees have to wear formal suit clothing like a shirt, jacket and tie. He was only wearing a winter sweater, however I overlooked this because he seemed nice an friendly at first (looks can be deceiving). I was dressed wearing a suit, jacket and tie because I wanted to look the part and I cared about trying to set a good impression for Nova. During the interview I was asked pretty trivial interviewing questions . I answered all of the questions that were given to me, I felt like he had a clear understanding of what I do and the experience that I have. I even mentioned some of the relevant English teaching experience from the ALT job that I currently do. At the end of the interview the interviewer talked about things such as the salary, the type of employment and he even discussed with me the times and hours that I would be available to work. From this information I had the assumption that I had been informally offered a position with the company because there was nothing indicating that I wouldn't be denied a position. After the interview had finished I was left feeling positive, usually I don't feel like that after I do interviews, because usually I had missed something out. I assumed that I only had to wait for further details regarding when I could start and as well as the days and times and await further information for the contract details. Unfortunately 2 days I received the bad news. The company messaged me saying: "I regret to inform you that, after careful consideration, we have decided not to offer you a position." When I requested feedback the company refused to tell me why they would not hire me , even despite the fact I already have the teaching experience and background to support that job. I think it's completely outrageous that companies treat people like this by refusing to give feedback even if you have the experience they look for. I also feel like the interviewers with NOVA are very unprofessional and lack the skills to do the interviews. This is a big let down for a company that prides itself in high quality service for it's clients.
- 1) Tell us about yourself? 2) What is an example of a good teacher? 3) What do you know about Nova? 4) What's your understanding of what we do?

I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at NOVA (Japan) in Jul 2021
Pretty straight forward. Asked if I had any questions and went over resume. Went over the schedule of what will happen before I go over if I should get accepted (COE, etc)
- They asked me to attempt a short practice English lesson with the recruiter as the student.

I applied online. I interviewed at NOVA (Japan) (Tokyo) in Mar 2021
Skype interview with employer. You should dress for the interview per the dress code, as if you were already hired and about to teach a class. You'll answer basic questions about yourself, your experience, what you know about the position, why you want to go to japan, etc. and you'll need to do a mock lesson with the instructor roleplaying as a student. In my case we did two mock lessons, one with a student who is picking stuff up quickly, and one who is struggling. You should use TPR for this (total physical response) which is when you speak slowly and act out each word with a gesture, as that is what they want their instructors to do. Speak clearly, slowly, and make sure to smile and be expressive. After the interview they will let you know your results, generally within 14 days or so and then you will need to follow their instructions as they come to you. Good luck
