      I interviewed at Octopus Energy

      Interview

I applied online, and a representative from Octopus reached out to me to invite me to interview. We had a 30-minute phone call, for which I prepared assiduously. The interview went well from my perspective, and my interviewer said as such. She told me the next step would be for her to connect me for a video call with the person who would be my boss were I to be hired. I followed up after the interview to thank my interviewer, and then continued to follow-up every few weeks. I never heard a word back. Given that Octopus advertises itself as a people-first company (I listened to many interviews with Greg Jackson in which he emphasized this fact), the Octopus team should give candidates who interview the respect of at least a simple rejection message. I understand that everyone is busy, but especially given the added stress of these times, I would have greatly appreciated some acknowledgement of my time, effort, and genuine excitement about the company and position.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

My interviewer asked about my background, why I was interested in Octopus, and about my thoughts on the clean energy industry in the United States.

Thanks for leaving this feedback, we're always looking to improve our processes and experience at Octopus. Our US team is very much at the start up stage so we're implementing our processes and hiring from scratch with candidates being our main focus, so we're sorry you had a negative experience with feedback. You're totally right, feedback is so important for us to give candidates and we're so sorry that your feedback was missed. Please can you drop me a message - olivia.brown@octoenergy.com and we can arrange a time to talk as soon as possible. We hope with all our candidates, if it's not the right time now, there may be another role in the future that is right for both of us. We now have a dedicated recruiter in the US to avoid anything like this happening.
