I applied through university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Paymentwall (Amsterdam) in May 2015
Interview
I had doubts about interviewing with this company. As you can see the reviews here are not very positive and a simple Google search brings up concerning results regarding merchant complaints and sex discrimination lawsuits. But I had met Paymentwall at a student job fair in Amsterdam and the representatives were personable and enthusiastic, so I subsequently submitted an open application for a Compliance / Legal position in Amsterdam. I was immediately scheduled for an interview and ultimately completed 4 interviews in about a 2-week time frame, including with the CEO. I found the interviews to be substantively light with one exception, but all were pleasant and the process seemed to be serious and going well. As others have mentioned, the interviews tended to be scheduled late at night, with little notice and none started on time.
As a follow-up, the CEO suggested an in-person interview in Amsterdam in connection with his business trip to Europe and Asia, and this interview was to take place some 10 days after our initial conversation. The interview was confirmed for a Friday, midday. On the preceding Wednesday evening, one of the job fair representatives sent me a short email saying that they'd like to move the interview to Saturday midday and asked "would you be able to make it?" Well actually I was not able to meet at the proposed time for important personal reasons that are irrelevant so I won't mention them. After all it was Saturday. Of a holiday weekend. I suggested instead the morning or evening as well as anytime on the Sunday.
I thought I was being pretty flexible considering the rather late change to the plan and in any event I didn't have a choice. So I was shocked to receive this response from the job fair representative: " I'm glad you responded this way which clearly shows you are not the fit for the company." Wow, no words. Just like that, the process was over.
You can draw your own conclusions. But I wish I had not wasted my time with such an immature organization. There were plenty of warnings from other Glassdoor reviews and simple Googling that indeed there was not a good fit here.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
One of the interviewers asked for my ideas on using technology to authenticate the identity of online customers.
a holiday BBQ is not a good reason to reject an interview time when the interviewer made the time to meet you among back to back meetings, after he flew in from China to Amsterdam on his way to Moscow. Of course you'll get the interview rescinded, duh! Hope the BBQ was fun though!
