Interview
I was contacted after sending a resume in over WhatsApp, asking to schedule a call. After that call, we arranged a trial shift in the morning, early next week. On the day of the trial shift, the Supervisor kept pushing the time up, eventually to three hours later, to which I agreed. When I arrived for my trial, the Supervisor was eating his dinner and I had to sit and wait for further time until he had even decided what I would be doing. He told me to go to a separate unit, and the trial be a set of tasks that involved, weighing out, bagging, sealing and labelling products. All very self explanatory and to be expected. The Supervisor was not around much for any of it. He said he would be testing my speed and accuracy, but seemed to be in a completely different unit, forgetting I was there for most of the trial, and after finishing each task I had to wait in awkward silence until he appeared again to set up another one. Other people were working on other tasks at the same time and talking amongst each other, but made no effort to make conversation with me and when I spoke or asked a question I was met with silence and odd looks. About 1.5 hours into the trial, the Supervisor kept telling me I could complete the task I was doing and be finished, but afterwards would ask me to do “just one more thing.” This continued on until 4:25pm. He then came in and announced to the staff that they would not be getting their last 20 minute break and they were to work straight into closing, at which point I realised he expected me to stay around to help them close up. I quickly got my things and told him I would be going home. He asked me if I wanted the job, but I told him I was not interested. Far too many red flags, and a complete disregard of my time.
