      Business Intelligence Engineer/Analyst Interview

      19 Mar 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Oakland, CA
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Roofstock (Oakland, CA) in Feb 2020

      Interview

Roofstock had two positions open, one for BI Analyst and another for BI Engineer. I interviewed for both. 1. Telephone interview with recruiter 2. Telephone interview (sql) with the hiring manager 3. Provide sample Tableau reports to showcase Tableau talent 4. Another telephone interview with the hiring manager to explain the Tableau reports 5. Another telephone Python interview 6. Onsite interview with 4-5 rounds All the interview rounds were pretty normal except the Python one. In that particular interview, only one BIG question was provided which was little difficult to understand at first. I had to read through it multiple times to gauge it properly. I hate when interviewer try to gauge candidate's abilities only by one question. Ultimately, I was offered the position of BI Analyst and was told that this position will gradually blossom into BI Engineer. I had to decline it as I got the feeling that they were trying to fill in two positions with one person and also offered salary was very nominal. Company seems to be good. All the people I met were very amicable.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Python question was related to Term frequency (tf), idf

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize that parts of the interview were unclear. It definitely demonstrates the candidate’s problem-solving process when dealing with ambiguity and it looks like you passed with flying colors! As a growing startup, our team members usually wear multiple hats, which we feel contributes to larger companywide bonding and understanding. We are glad that you enjoyed meeting some Roofsters and are sorry that you decided not to join us.
