Stage one was filling out an applicaction form. I then received an e-mail asking me to record a one-minute video of why I would fit in at Symless etc. I was then told they wanted to interview me buut to to record another 60-second video about a time I shone as a PA first. They then retracted their request for an interview, which I thought to be highly unprofessional.

Hello, I'm really sorry about how badly this was handled. I understand this must have been very disappointing for you. The 60-second video was designed to help us filter the circa 1000 applications we had received. However, we soon realised that a 60-second video clip was not the best approach, and have since decided to discontinue that part of the process. I appreciate that you put a lot of effort into your video, so please accept my sincere apologies and feel free to apply for the role again in the near future (don't worry, no video this time).     I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Symless (Camberley, England) in June 2017.

    Very unprofessional recruitment process. I sent my CV and was told I had been selected for interview and asked to upload a 60 second video on YouTube which I did same day. I received an acknowledgement and was advised they would try to get back to me within 7 days. Two weeks later, I received an email informing me they had received 1000 applications for the role and had filled the position and would I complete a survey about my recruitment experience. Very amateur. I would advise applicants to steer clear of this company and their dodgy recruitment process.

    • "Great news! I'd like to interview you for the PA to CEO role here at Symless. Before the interview, I'll need you to record a quick 60 second video (you can do this from your phone). In the video, tell us about a specific time which shows you really shining as a PA, demonstrating how crucial you are to your current CEO (or someone that you've been assisting). When you're done, upload it to YouTube. Set the sharing settings to unlisted so only I can watch it."   6 Answers
