      Project Manager Interview

      16 Oct 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Montreal, QC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Talent.com (Montreal, QC) in Sept 2022

      Interview

You get a message from HR to schedule a screening interview given few days notice. You finish interview and asked HR when should next step is. They said a timeline of a week but did not hear back after 5 weeks. After hearing from them, you get scheduled again with few days notice again with the direct manager. Here you get typical questions and get to present something about project management. If you move forward, you get a message the next days and given last minute options to meet a member of the PM team and a colleague from a different department. In-person interview so office is nice and vibe is good but seems rushed and last minute as person interviewing was changed an hour before. No issue with the change but you can see the pattern of how the company operates. Friendly vibe with the people on the final interview but when asked what's the level of interaction with the other team, person said role might not be directly working with their team. There's a confusing information as to what the direct manager mentioned in the interview as to what the role entails. It seems as though they are figuring it out, which is fine. One interesting info was that the manager in the second interview mentioned, someone did not accept the offer because it was a support role and they emphasized that during my interview. That itself was already a red-flag and considering the timeline, you know you are only a back-up. It was fine until after one week of the final interview, I had to reach out for an update. Only to have been told job "is now on pause because of restructuring". One can make lots of assumptions with that, but seems like a time waste. It was nice that they provided feedback but seems confusing. It was mentioned I was clearly a "people person" yet feedback on one answer for a question said it shows lacking empathy. Another one would be was asked what technical skills I would bring which I highlighted Excel, but they mentioned I should have answered project management related. Yet, when I asked the team member what software/tools they use, they answered a variety and trying multiple tools. This tells me nothing seems to be in place. Based on the questions asked, I got the impression that lots of changes are happening and they emphasize questions dealing with difficult people as the overarching challenge of this role. Overall, the most interesting thing would probably be the youthful vibe and fresh atmosphere. Company has potential but be wary though as they seem to be winging it along the way.
