I applied for Blow Ltd because I am a full time student and they promise flexible working. I have been a nail technician for almost 5 years and hold fully accredited certificates.
In the advert it states the following:
"We will provide branded kit, equipment and clothing - be the face of our brand"
It also states that you MUST have at least 1 year experience as a nail tech.
I was invited for a trade test and was told to bring my own kit to demonstrate my skills. I attended the trade test and afterwards was told that I'd done an "excellent" job and that I would be contacted in the following days to arrange training! I was over the moon!
The following day however I received an email stating that I'd been unsuccessful, understandably I was extremely confused, I'd been told that I would receive an email about training, not a rejection email.
When I called the company to ask why I'd been unsuccessful I was told that it wasn't because of my qualifications (they heavily stressed this), it was because of my kit!
But if you remember, they say they provide the kit (I have picture evidence of the advert that I applied through), it seems fishy to me.
Apparently my nail polish brand isn't on their list of "premium approved brands". I wasn't given a list prior to my trade test of what their "approved brands" were so how was I to know?
I use Kiko Milano polishes in my kit as well as professionals only gel polishes and I have never had a problem with customers not liking the polishes which I use. Even when I said that I would happily change the polishes in my kit, I was still told I had been unsuccessful.
I was told during my phone call to Blow Ltd what their "approved brands" are, so here's a list:
Essie
Jessica
CND
Nails Inc
OPI
Last time I checked, minus CND, all the other brands you can buy in Boots, Superdrug or other stores COMMERCIALLY.
Oh and occasionally you can also get Nails Inc free with a £2 Cosmopolitan mag or if you buy two bottles of Diet Coke from Boots.
Hardly "premium brands" to me.
Stay well away if you're an experienced nail tech.
Really rushed and didn't feel like I was given a proper opportunity. Super quick few questions, followed by a quick test. The test was easy but they didn't have all the tools I would usually use.
