How would you cover a story about a protest and why?

1 Answers

I've covered a protest before. I talked to those who addressed the crowd and to those affected by what they protesting against, which in this case was police brutality. I got into the crowd and marched with them to experience what they cared about. Not everyone wanted to talk to me but I got to speak with the most visible and important people in the protest. Less

Ruptly

I was asked to state why I was applying to Ruptly. I said that I wanted to work for an organisation that focused on news outside of the mainstream, which is true. I think it would have helped it I had been more critical of the UN, EU, NATO and any other transnational organisation Putin isn't too fond of. Bad mouthing Russia's enemies would have also helped.

I was asked to to suggest a few news stories that I thought the company should be covering. I gave a list of stories, and with each one was told why that didn't work, but I think this was just to see how resilient I was. The meeting lasted quite a while and I came away convinced that I hadn't got the job. I was told to keep sending in ideas for news stories, which I did and there was radio silence for many weeks. I was only invited to work there once I asked for feedback about the interview. It felt quite psychologically manipulative to be honest. Less
