At the bus stop 3/4 of commuters leave the bus and 7 new come in. This process repeats 3 times. What is the minimal number of people initially in the bus.3 Answers520.25(0.25 (0.25 x + 7) + 7) = x/64 + 7/16 + 7/4 is an integer, thus the minimum x is 52. Any quicker solution?Yup, there is a quicker solution. First note that if x is the answer, then the number of people on the bus is always a linear function of x => we are looking for the smallest possible number of people in the end. If the number of people in the end is y, then the number in the beginning is 4(4(4(y-7)-7)-7)=64y-588. Hence y is at least 10, and in that case the minimum x is 52. It remains to check that 52 works, and it does. This isn't a radical change from your solution, but multiplication is usually easier than division, especially considering that this is probably a first-round problem, where no pen/paper are allowed. Another method: First step subtracts 7 from y, so y>6. Second step requires 4y>35, or equivalently y>8. Finally, y=9 doesn't work and y=10 does, so x=52.

Imagine you are the director of a hospital which the press has described as a 'health hazard'. Suppose that this is true - the cleaning company you use is currently involved in a number of scandals, however you are legally bound to it for 7 years. How would you deal with the situation?2 AnswersTwo main points: (1) you cannot discontinue the contract, and further the cleaning firm is already embroiled in scandal so you cannot make it do a better job by threatening its reputation. It seems therefore that the only thing you can do is provide material incentives, and accept the cost this entails. (2) it seems that an insider has reported your company to the press, so you need to think of ways to keep employees happy and loyal. Once you get the cleanliness situation sorted it's a good idea to invite the press to inspect the hospital to dispel allegations.depends what is in the contract - there may be a break cause is 'certain standards have not been met. Could look to exit contract by negotiating a pay off or by using 'national standards' as a benchmark to actively monitor the firm.... If it came from an insider going to the press - alwyas a good idea to sweeten in advance the local and professional press - national press if possible. If not - use it is an option to engage with press and love the idea of increased transparency for press...

Classic one from them: You have an array and you want to find the first non-repeating element.2 AnswersHash functionsYou could sort the array, then scan it to find the first non-repeated item. = O(nLog(n)) if using a decent sort. Or ... Simply check if the 1st item exists in the rest of the array, then the 2nd etc. O(n*n) Or... if the range of values being checked lies within known bounds use a pigeon-hole check to find duplicates.

How many times does the Earth rotate around its own axis while it makes one revolution around the sun?5 AnswersLittle more than 365The earth completes 1 rotation on its own axis approximately every 24hrs The earth completes 1 rotation around the sun approximately every 365 days So the number of rotations on it's own axis after completing 1 rotation around the sun is: 24 rotations per day x 365 days = 8,760 rotations.one time more than the number of days in a yearShow more responses365. Second response is funny: - The earth completes 1 rotation on its own axis approximately every 24hrs; + I add that one day as 24hrs; - 24 rotations per day.... Well I didn't know we had a 576hrs days :)While it makes 365 complete rotations around the sun, to answer the question being asked, the answer would have to be that the earth is constantly rotating around its own axis.

Why Barclays Capital? [answer] Why that? [answer] Why is that important? etc... Very important as a candidate to REALLY know why you want to work for Barcap.1 AnswerMy general advice is to check recent awards to see what the bank you are applying for is good at (maybe something you like or at least can pretend to like).
