I worked at AstraZeneca as a contractor (More than 3 years)
Whether a contractor or permanent employee the benefits are good. Time off and schedule is fair. Company provides free coffee/tea, refrigerators and microwaves for meals, able to leave work for breaks at times with food places closeby. Decent work/life balance. Many meetings providing growth, learning, food, company events during work hours that you can enjoy catered meals. Many incentives to make the working environment enjoyable.
Can be hard to fit in. Management does not always stick up for what is right in a professional way often humiliating people in front of other coworkers during shift change over meetings. HR is nonexistent. Not enough people in management to properly manage this type of company dynamic often leaving management to even vend for themselves with no support so it's no wonder they can't support others properly.
Advice to Management
Hire more management and don't feed into issues. Go about things the right way without humiliating workers that dedicate so much of their time and efforts to the advancement of the company.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at AstraZeneca (Phila, PA (US)) in February 2016.
Very thorough process. Two part interview, drug testing, thorough background check, verification for diploma, degrees and certificates. Meet with the recruiter, the the representative from AstraZeneca. They were both nice but wasn't very informative with how things ran at the site. Two day orientation, at another location other then where you will be working.
