Investment and executive commitment form HQ to the Japanese market.
Great office with the view of Tokyo bay and Tokyo Tower. Open work environment. We have the rare opportunity to change and modernize how Japanese companies and consumers reach agreements by speeding up processes, reducing cost, and increasing compliance.
It does take time to change business culture that has been around in Japan for centuries. Some traditional companies/industries are not yet ready to move from paper based manual process to an all digital process, even though the younger employees and customers see the value of agreeing electronically.
Advice to Management
Japan is a very different market and requires long-term commitment. The amount of paper and manual based process makes Japan a huge market potential for DocuSign. But it could take a bit longer than other markets to catch on, But once it does, Japan is very quick to adopt.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at DocuSign (Tokyo (Japan)) in December 2016.
I met the DocuSign internal senior recruiter in Tokyo via an external recruiter in mid November 2016. Two weeks later, I took a face-to-face interview with a solution engineering director and a solution engineer in Tokyo office.
The WebEx interview with a professional service senior director and a product manager was scheduled in mid December. It was a fun interview, I liked it.
The final interview with the Japan country manager was scheduled on late December. However, when I was about to leave home for the interview 2 hours before, the external recruiter notified me that DocuSign made a last minute interview cancellation without telling a specific reason. He was trying to rearrange the final interview in early January.
After all, the recruiter said that they decided to fill the role with a referral and that was the reason for their last minute cancellation. I believe it was not a fair treatment, and got very disappointed by the lack of professionalism.
