    Software Engineer Interview

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Tableau Software (Palo Alto, CA (US)) in November 2018.

    Interview

I was referred by an acquaintance who worked at Tableau.
Went through two hour long phone screens which involved medium level LeetCode type of problems.
Next I was flown out to Palo Alto for an on-site.
    Round 1: Whiteboard coding interview
    Round 2: Design Interview
Round 3: Lunch with manager and another interviewer
Round 4, 5: Whiteboard coding interview
The interview was difficult, but I thought I did well at the time. As I later found out, I got all but one vote out of all interviewers so the company went with a another candidate that got all yeses.
I was interviewed by the same team that I would've been working with if I was a better engineer.
