Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Auto Trader UK (Manchester, England) in May 2022

    Interview

Interview was 2 stages, video call followed by face to face. Interviews were very enjoyable and interviewers max me feel at ease.

Face to face interview started with an office walk around which was a great icebreaker, putting me at ease. This was followed by some general questions regarding transferable experience and motivations for applying.

Next was a round of examples where I had used their core values in previous work. Quickly followed by a role play activity where I had to play the role of an onboarding specialist. I was given a brief and 15 minutes to prepare for this. The activity was enjoyable and really allowed me to delve into the role.

Following the interview I was told I would hear within a week. Two weeks later I was told I hadn’t been successful but they thought my skills were suited to a different role within the business. After replying to this email to say I was interested I have never had a reply, despite multiple follow up emails.

In addition to this, I was told I would have verbal feedback regarding the application. Again I have never received a call, even after providing dates I was available.

Overall I would say that Auto Trader’s interview process was thorough and enjoyable. The only thing letting them down is the recruitment communication and the poor response rate from them.

I would still like to receive feedback regarding my application journey and would be keen to find out more about the alternative role I was notified of. However as of right now I am still awaiting a response from Auto Trader, some two weeks after agreeing dates I was available for a call.
