We have five values that express our shared understanding of what we believe, how we aim to behave and what we aspire to be as an organisation

Safety is good business. Everything we do relies upon the safety of our workforce and the communities around us. We care about the safe management of the environment. We are committed to safely delivering energy to the world.

We respect the world in which we operate. It begins with compliance with laws and regulations. We hold ourselves to the highest ethical standards and behave in ways that earn the trust of others. We depend on the relationships we have and respect each other and those we work with. We value diversity of people and thought. We care about the consequences of our decisions, large and small, on those around us.

We are in a hazardous business, and are committed to excellence through the systematic and disciplined management of our operations. We follow and uphold the rules and standards we set for our company. We commit to quality outcomes, have a thirst to learn, and to improve. If something is not right, we correct it.

What we do is rarely easy. Achieving the best outcomes often requires the courage to face difficulty, to speak up and stand by what we believe. We always strive to do the right thing. We explore new ways of thinking and are unafraid to ask for help. We are honest with ourselves, and actively seek feedback from others. We aim for an enduring legacy, despite the short term priorities of our world.

One Team

Whatever the strength of the individual, we will accomplish more together. We put the team ahead of our personal success and commit to building its capability. We trust each other to deliver on our respective obligations.

Diversity and inclusion

Our goal is to create an environment of inclusion and acceptance. For our employees to be motivated and perform to their full potential, and for the business to excel, our people need to be treated with respect and dignity and without discrimination.

Employee networks

BP encourages and supports a number of business resource groups (BRGs). BRGs are employee-networks, set up by employees for employees. The groups come together voluntarily with the goal of enhancing the success of BP's D&I objectives by helping to foster, develop and retain diverse talent in BP. We currently have BRGs around race, gender, sexual orientation, working parents, veterans and disabilities, providing opportunities for informal development and networking.

Some of the current BRGs include:

  • BP Women’s International Network and local women’s networks at many of our sites around the world.
  • BP Pride group for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees.
  • BP Asian, African-American and Latino networks in the US.
  • Positively Ethnic Network’ for Black, Asian and ethnic minority employees in the UK.
  • Global Reach in the UK and Beyond America in the US, bringing together employees working in those countries from outside the UK and the US.
  • Gray Matters in the US.
  • Working Parents and Parents to Be in the UK and the US.
  • Disability Awareness Network in the UK.

Future Leaders Programme

In order to remain competitive in this constantly evolving global marketplace, we need effective leaders to keep us one step ahead. Our Future Leaders Programme (FLP) is a four-year global rotation scheme. It takes talented individuals from a diverse range of professional backgrounds and gives them the skills they need to drive our Downstream business forward.

We’ll help you make the most of your potential and share your ideas – all the while shaping and building your own long-term career with us. And we’ll tailor the programme to best suit your ambitions. What’s more, you’ll be part of a close, supportive Future Leaders Programme community with plenty of networking opportunities across our Downstream business.

Business and commercial opportunities

You could be helping to build and leverage brand relationships within marketing, retail or sales. Or perhaps you could provide strategic support in one of our procurement and supply chain, finance or strategy roles where you help drive the change necessary to move the business forward.

Manufacturing, engineering and operations opportunities

As a participant in this stream of the Future Leaders Programme, you could join any of our global operations sites to develop both your technical and leadership capabilities.

Technology opportunities

We’re using technology to improve the efficiency of processes in our refineries and petrochemical plants. You could join one of our many leading development areas, including formulated products technology, refining and logistics technology, petrochemicals technology or conversion technology.

Wherever you’re working, you’ll work in challenging roles that will develop your skills and prepare you for success.

Great perks, good salary, good progression opportunities including options offering further education, flexible working, above minimum annual leave entitlement, paternity and maternity

Lengthy interview process, all for the right reasons gender diversity etc. but unpleasant as a candidate, process driven progression, so unfortunately no shortcuts!

    Advice to Management

Very good job, good motivational conversations, great feedback for business performance, very good at being approachable and giving time for mentoring and listening.

I applied online. The process took 4+ months. I interviewed at BP (London, England) in March 2012.

Very question oriented and focuses on how you can apply yourself to this company. You need to be very knowledgeable in your own field and be able to answer basic questions.
