At Baringa, our aim is to recruit the best. We want people who are highly motivated and well-rounded. People who have an entrepreneurial spirit and who want to help to make a difference to the business. People who are committed and passionate about providing a first-class client service.

If you’d like to get to know a little more about us, take a look at this:
Our business, like those of our clients, has changed since we were established in 2000. We’ve grown, added new capabilities and changed our operating model.
But through the change, our five core values have stayed constant - and they remain central to all we do. They are the basis of our workplace culture. They define the way we work. They inform the relationships we have not only with our clients but also each other. It's the reason our clients come back to us time again.
It works for us and it works for our clients too.
We recently ran a staff competition, inviting our people to submit their own original photography which depicted our values in a visual way. The results were so good that all the photography used in our website is made up of those pictures.
At Baringa, we take Corporate Social Responsibility seriously and our objective is to make a positive impact on society and with our staff by focusing on the issues and initiatives that we believe in. We aim to achieve this by enabling our people to make a difference by supporting a range of internal and external charity, community, environmental and well-being initiatives.
At Baringa, we recognise that having a balanced workforce is not only good for recruitment, it’s also good for our clients. We are committed to making Baringa a better balanced place in which to work and thrive. Our internal initiative, Baringa Balance, is aimed at supporting individuals across the company irrespective of background. It’s an initiative that has grown as the company has evolved, and one which:
As part of our commitment to a balanced workforce, we are active members of two Business in the Community initiatives - Opportunity Now and Race for Opportunity.
I have been working at Baringa Partners full-time (Less than a year)
Motivated, intelligent people; Fantastic perks; Interesting projects; Formal and informal training culture is great - lots of weight placed on learning/ knowledge. As a firm, Baringa communicates senior leadership decisions really well to the junior staff - I feel involved in the direction of the firm.
Only con is that my outside of work friends are getting sad with me for spending too much time at work socials.
Advice to Management
Keep doing what you are doing! The emphasis on innovation is great
I applied online. The process took 5+ weeks. I interviewed at Baringa Partners (London, England) in August 2014.
after sending my CV by email I was invited to do an Excel assessment test. I was sent an Excel file at a prearranged time and had 45min to complete the questions in it. On the first sheet you had do calculate some averages and convert energy and CO2 prices to different currencies. In the second sheet you had to calculate the price of electricity of a gas or coal power plant and of a windfarm, and had to comment about the difference in the average price of electricity. In the last sheet you had to discount some prices to calculate it's time value. That's all I remember. It is enough to use standard excel functions like averages and weighted averages, and nothing more complicated is needed.
After the successful completion of the excel assessment I was invited to a first round interview with one of their partners and another senior consultant. Beforehand I had a phone conversation with one of their recruiters informing me about starting salary (37.000 GBP) and the interview process in general.
I was not invited to a second round interview since I did not perform well enough in some of the energy market specific questions (see below).
Generally the hiring process seemed transparent and quick. I was a surprised though that they did NOT cover my travel expenses. I took a whole day off at my current job and had to travel from abroad. In only got 90 GBP reimbursed, which was far from what I actually paid to get to the interview. I have been to 8 job interviews up to now, and this was the only time a company refused to pay my travel expenses, which I thought was pretty weird. But it goes in line with what previous posters mentioned, that at Baringa in general cash seems to be tight when in comes to pay raises and reimbursements.
So overall the interview process was fine, and it seems like a nice place to work, with really sympathic people, if you accept the lower salary level compared to similar jobs at other consultancies.
