Berkeley Group – Why Work With Us?

Our Purpose

To build quality homes, strengthen communities and improve people's lives.

Our Vision

To be a world-class business, defined by the quality of the places we create, generating long-term value and having a positive impact on society.

Our Values

  • Have Integrity
  • Be Passionate
  • Think Creatively
  • Respect People
  • Excellence Through Detail

Building Communities

For Berkeley, development is all about people. We go beyond the conventional role of a developer and put the strength and wellbeing of the wider community at the heart of every plan.
We listen to local people and find out what they care about most. Then we work in partnership to shape unique, locally inspired masterplans with a mix of beautiful public spaces, natural landscapes and welcoming amenities that bring people together to enjoy community life.

Connecting People and Nature

We believe that people and nature belong together. So in 2017 we became the first UK homebuilder to commit to enhancing nature on every new site, no matter what the land’s existing use.
We use our Net Biodiversity Gain Toolkit to measure established habitats and create long-term strategies to preserve, enhance and expand nature, so that we leave behind a more beautiful and sustainable living landscape.
We work in partnership with local Wildlife Trusts to create these nature-rich places and engage local communities in their growth and stewardship.

Climate Action

We want to play a lead role in decarbonising the built environment sector. Our business operations have been carbon positive since 2018, through taking action to reduce energy use and offsetting more emissions than we produce.
We are producing zero carbon transition plans for all new developments and designing more climate resilient homes and places.
We are rated A- for climate action by CDP; the highest score in our sector.

Where We Work

We operate across London, Birmingham and the South of England, with a focus on large-scale brownfield sites.
We work through six autonomous brands: Berkeley, St Edward, St George, St James, St Joseph and St William.

Berkeley Foundation

The Berkeley Foundation is the independent grant-making foundation established by the Berkeley Group in March 2011.
It works in partnership with the voluntary sector and others to help young people in London, Birmingham and the South of England overcome barriers, improve their lives and build a fairer society. Since its launch, the Foundation has committed over £20 million to more than 100 charities and worthy causes.

Berkeley Group is made up of six autonomous companies: Berkeley Homes, St Edward, St George, St James, St Joseph and St William. We are publicly-owned and listed on the London Stock Exchange as a FTSE 100 company.

Berkeley is the Group's longest established brand, founded in 1976 and today creating medium to large-scale developments in towns, cities and the countryside, encompassing executive homes, mixed use schemes, riverside apartments, refurbished historic buildings and urban loft spaces. Berkeley is proud to be one of the leading property development companies in London and the South of England.

St Edward

St Edward was established as a joint venture company co-owned by the Berkeley Group and Prudential. The powerful combination of the two companies' strengths and complimentary skills provides a strong vehicle for delivering unique residential developments in London and the South of England.

St George

St George specialises in high quality mixed use sustainable regeneration in London, schemes that have dramatically transformed large swathes of brownfield land, reviving the city landscape and establishing thriving new communities. St George are now renowned top London property developers.

St James

The London and South of England property developer St James, originally a joint venture between the Berkeley Group and Thames Water, handles projects that embrace private residential development, commercial property, recreational and community facilities, with creative solutions that deliver every aspect of responsible and sustainable mixed use development.

St Joseph

The Berkeley Group builds fantastic homes in amazing places. St Joseph is Berkeley's newest brand, created to bring our passion for quality and place making to Birmingham and the West Midlands.

St William

St William is a new joint venture launched by National Grid and the Berkeley Group. Focused on new developments in London, this has the potential to provide over 7,000 homes in eight boroughs across Greater London over the next 14 years. It will combine the design expertise of Berkeley with National Grid Property's portfolio of redundant brownfield sites to create some fantastic new places for people to live.

There are five areas of strategic focus under Our Vision: Customers, Homes, Places, Operations and Our People. By focusing on strategic objectives under these areas, we ensure that we continue to provide customers with an exceptional service, whilst delivering high quality homes and places where communities can thrive and where people can live sustainable lifestyles. We also recognise that the skills, knowledge and dedication of our people, alongside the efficient management of our operations, are fundamental to the ongoing success of our business.

Our customers are at the heart of every decision we make. We are always mindful that we are building someone’s home; the place they will enjoy, relax in and feel secure. This extends beyond customer-facing activities, from the initial purchase of land through to the design of each home and wider development. We aim to understand our customers’ needs and consistently meet or exceed their expectations, whilst promoting sustainable lifestyles.

We believe that everyone deserves a good home; a home that has been designed and built to a high quality, that has low environmental impact, and that enables its occupants to live healthily and comfortably now and in the future. Our approach is fundamental to our business; it is demanded of us by our customers and differentiates Berkeley.

We believe in putting people at the heart of placemaking. We work in partnership to create well-designed, beautiful, high quality, safe and sustainable places which will endure as settled, vibrant communities long into the future. They include sustainable infrastructure and amenities, and are designed to be resilient to the effects of climate change.

Running our operations effectively and considerately is fundamental to the long-term success of the business. Each of our developments is led by a dedicated project team responsible for all aspects of design and delivery, including the co-ordination of professional teams of consultants and contractors; the discussion and incorporation of innovative ideas; and the environmentally efficient and socially considerate conduct of our day-to-day activities. We continue to work with our supply chain, to ensure that the necessary skills, quality services and materials are available to help us deliver the pipeline of work.

Our People

Our people are key to the development process, from the identification and purchase of land through to the sale of our homes and ongoing customer service. We are committed to supporting our teams and contributing to wider society. Attracting, developing and retaining a highly skilled, diverse, inclusive and motivated workforce is crucial to our approach. Health, safety and wellbeing are key areas of focus across all of our operations. We aim to have a positive impact on society both directly and through the Berkeley Foundation.

We look for talented people who will embrace our purpose and share our core values; creativity, passion, integrity, respect for people and relentless attention to detail.

In turn, we offer the chance to work for an industry-leading FTSE 100 business delivering some of most ambitious and challenging brownfield regeneration programmes in the country, working with industry experts to create welcoming communities where people enjoy a great quality of life.

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Berkeley Group (London, England) in August 2018.

Hour interview with line manager and follow up interview with project director, this was done on the same day but might have required a second interview if the project director wasn't available
