It is with deep sadness that our ‘north star,’ Bill Gates Sr., passed away on Monday, September 14 at home surrounded by family. It is no overstatement to say that without Bill Sr. there would be no Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as we know it today. His belief that all lives have equal value inspired our mission, and will remain at the heart of everything we do to the last. His legacy is profound. Bill Sr. was an extraordinary leader in the global fight against inequity, and a tireless advocate for the foundation and our issues. His impact was also felt across Seattle and the Pacific Northwest through his involvement in so many notable organizations. By every measure, Bill Sr. embodied what it means to show up for life. His generosity, humility, intelligence, and humor were just a few qualities of a great man. He was also a great friend, colleague, and mentor to many. Even as our organization grew, Bill Sr.’s values and pragmatism were a reminder that this is very much a family foundation. Our ‘north star’ will be dearly missed. - Shared by Mark Suzman, our CEO

    Difficult Interview
    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (Seattle, WA) in Mar 2017

    Interview

The selection process is long - don't expect a quick resolution. The process I went through involved an initial screening call with the recruiting partners, then a brief and fairly relaxed phone interview with the hiring manager. The final (and main) event was a day of interviews in Seattle - a succession of 6 back to back 1 hr interviews, all 1:1, with a variety of people from across the organisation. They take hiring very seriously - after I'd accepted the offer and joined I participated from the other side and I can honestly say that the process is very well prepped, with lots of recruiter support, and the selection decisions are taken very carefully and after a good deal of deliberation. The whole process from my first screening call through to being sent an offer was about 6 months. The 1:1 interviews were more draining than difficult, mainly due to jet lag
