ChipMOS TECHNOLOGIES (Bermuda) wants to offer the most in chip-testing services. Through its operating unit ChipMOS Taiwan, the Bermuda-domiciled ChipMOS offers contract testing and packaging services for chip makers. ChipMOS tests unpackaged chips for flaws, then packages them in protective plastic casings for shipment to customers. The company began its existence as a factory of Mosel Vitelic and was later a joint venture of Mosel Vitelic and Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) before being set up as an independent company in 2000. Mosel Vitelic, whose ProMOS affiliate accounts for 29% of ChipMOS's sales, still owns about 13% of the company. ChipMOS gets more than three-fourths of sales in Asia.
