This is a work environment where doing something exceptional and thinking beyond your desk is more than part of the job. It is the job.
Cummins started with a commitment to building dependable products. In the past 95 years, our people have helped us become a global leader - but with all our growth, we still believe in the same things. If you join us, you'll be part of a company that's totally committed to building partnerships with our customers, our environment and our communities.
This is how we do business. And we call it Working Right.
Cummins Inc. is organized into four distinct but complementary business units:
Cummins Engine Business manufactures and markets a complete line of diesel and natural gas-powered engines for on-highway and off-highway use. Its markets include heavy-and medium-duty truck, bus, recreational vehicle (RV), light-duty automotive and a number of industrial uses including agricultural, construction, mining marine, oil and gas and military equipment. Cummins Engine Business also provides a full range of new parts and services and remanufactured parts and engines through an extensive distribution network.
Cummins engines range in size from 31 to 3,500 horsepower and from 1.4 liters to 91 liters.
Cummins Power Generation Business is a global provider of power generation systems, components and services in standby power, distributed power generation, as well as auxiliary power in mobile applications to meet the needs of a diversified customer base. Cummins Power Generation also provides a full range of services and solutions, including long-term operation and maintenance contracts and turnkey and temporary power solutions.
Cummins Power Generation products include diesel and alternative-fueled electrical generator sets form 2.5 to 2,700 kW, alternators from 0.6 KVA to 30,000 KVA, transfer switches from 40 amps to 3,000 amps, paralleling switchgear and generator set controls.
The Components Business Segment consists of four businesses: Cummins Filtration, Cummins Turbo Technologies, Cummins Emission Solutions and Cummins Fuel Systems.
Cummins Distribution Business drives a comprehensive global distribution strategy and channel management. Capitalizing on synergies in parts and services, this business helps Cummins by providing outstanding support to our customers, while growing a less cyclical and less capital intensive business.
The business consists of 17 company-owned distributors and 10 joint ventures, covering 90 countries and territories through 233 locations. Through this network, trained personnel sell and distribute Cummins-branded products, related services and broader solutions such as maintenance contracts, engineering services and customized integrated products.
We build the world's most environmentally friendly and reliable diesel engines. And since the day we started, our specialists have produced them with one goal: to give our customers the power they need to do their jobs and live their lives - better.
Across our entire organization, you'll find engineers, developers and technicians who are innovating, designing, testing, and building. You'll also find accountants, marketers, IT, purchasing, and supply-chain specialists who are working in ways that are just as advanced and innovative.
We're on the cutting edge in every aspect of our company—from the technology that's inside our products to the processes we use to design, test and market them. We're also advanced in the way we partner with organizations around the world—whether we're growing our business or growing our communities. Innovation is our competitive advantage.
Making people's lives better by unleashing the Power of Cummins.
A diverse employee population is one of our keys to success. In fact, our Business Case for Diversity (published in 2008) states how inclusivity of diverse races, lifestyles and backgrounds create an environment where innovation flourishes. Now, we just need your unique perspective to push our next project to new heights.
Whether you desire to focus your skills on the management of technical projects and people, or if you want to dedicate yourself to becoming a specialist in a specific area of research, or both—your assignments and career path will match your talents and interests. The professional development tools and experiences you’ll find at Cummins are the key to your success. Our leadership training, mentoring circles, rotation programs and HR systems are all in place to build your career.
Serve and improve the communities in which we live.
Cummins has long believed that a Company is only as strong as the communities where its employees live and work. This is most evident in the fact that former Cummins Chairman and CEO J. Irwin Miller began investing in both affordable employee housing and world-class architecture in Columbus, Indiana (our world headquarters) over 50 years ago.
As Cummins has grown globally, so has our commitment to supporting the communities all around the world. This effort is led by The Cummins Foundation, which focuses on education, the environment and social justice wherever we operate - and a few places we don’t...yet. Community involvement puts your work in the right perspective.
Reducing our Environmental Impact
Demanding that everything we do leads to a cleaner, healthier, safer environment.
This is where innovations are born from a commitment to simply doing what’s right for our customers, for our professionals, and for the planet. We develop advances in diesel engines and related technologies to improve fuel efficiency. We’ve pledged to improve our energy efficiency at least 30 percent by 2015.
In 2011, Cummins announced that we exceeded our commitment to reduce 25 percent greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as part of the EPA’s Climate Leaders Program. We actually achieved a 28 percent reduction in GHG emissions (110,324 tons of CO2).
Recycling, waste management, water conservation, reduced energy use, solar energy and green buildings are also critical to our commitment to reducing our impact on our environment. Yes, it’s different here. And yes, you’ll love it.
Our long history and committment to diversity has been a long standing within Cummins. A diverse culture is critical to our success. We welcome multiple viewpoints and voices, and we embrace the diverse perspectives of all people and honor both with dignity and respect. Diversity is a business imperative as we look to enter new markets in an increasingly diverse and global marketplace.
Our 'Business Case for Diversity' establishes four goals to leverage the greatest benefit from our diverse workforce.
Affinity Groups and Local Diversity Councils
Cummins has over 100 Affinity Groups and Diversity Councils working to strengthen Cummins' inclusive environment. We promote diversity and inclusion and lending their unique perspectives to identify opportunities that can enhance our business success.
Our Affinity Groups are open to all employees and are organized around single dimensions of diversity, such as race, ethnicity, country of birth, gender, sexual orientation, as well as broader themes, such as people with disabilities, veterans and employees with less than five years of service. The groups focus on recruiting other talented individuals into Cummins as well as retaining our current pool of talented employees. The groups also focus on providing important cultural and business environment information to ensure Cummins’ success.
Potential for Growth
Innovation is critical to our success. We're also innovative in the way we develop our employees. Understanding your talents, current skills and future goals – and creating a plan to get you there. It's how we ensure that our employees continually grow so we can achieve the success we all dream about.
Like everyone at Cummins, you'll be asked to stretch your limits and demonstrate leadership. You can take advantage of opportunities for international career growth, training, work-life balance initiatives and much, much more.
As a Cummins employee, we want to help you achieve your full potential and grow as a leader. Here, there are no rigid career tracks—so whether you desire to focus your skills on the management of technical projects and people, or if you want to dedicate yourself to becoming a specialist in a specific area of research, or both—your assignments and career path will match your talents and interests.
The professional development tools and experiences you’ll find at Cummins are the key to your success. Our leadership training, mentoring circles, rotation programs and HR systems are all in place to build your career. Our culture inspires our employees to be ethical, engaged, innovative and committed to building success in others – which ultimately builds a successful and sustainable company with more opportunities.
In order to help guide your career, we leverage our global Performance Management process to align the success of the company with the work that you do. It also gives you the opportunity to guide your own growth and success through your career.
At the beginning of each year, you'll work with your manager to clearly define your work and development objectives (Planning stage). Throughout the year, you and your manager will have ongoing conversations to help align your work with the objectives of the company and our core values. You will also uncover skills and experiences that you'll need to accomplish your career goals and set goals for individual development. You'll work together to review your progress, and your manager will provide feedback on your work and development (Updating stage).
At the end of the year, you and your manager will again work together to evaluate your performance (Reviewing stage) and how it relates to big-picture Cummins objectives and to your own personal goals. Your manager will also speak with key stakeholders as part of your assessment in order to provide valuable feedback on your strengths and development opportunities.
