Established in the UK almost 40 years ago, Cundall has developed into an international multi-disciplinary consultancy operating from over 20 locations across the globe.

Cundall currently operates in the UKAustraliaAsiaMENA, and Europe. We have taken our UK knowledge and award-winning engineering expertise to each of these markets, and tailored it to suit individual local needs. Our success in these new markets is attributed to our ability to be flexible, highly responsive and adaptable to the different challenges, regulations and local practices which influence the delivery of projects in each region. 

With over 900 staff across the globe offering a full range of integrated engineering services, we are big enough to be able to provide a highly focused and dedicated team on our clients’ projects, but still at a size where our core values can be effectively applied. Every project is led by a Partner/Director to provide the right experience and guidance throughout the life of the project.

It’s all about team work at Cundall. At a local level, all of our teams are Partner-led, which provides second-to-none service to our clients, and unsurpassed opportunities for our staff to work with and learn from experts in their chosen discipline. As our business has grown, we’ve invested heavily in developing an infrastructure that enables us to work effectively as a global team. This means that many of our staff enjoy opportunities to work with colleagues in other offices, in their own country and internationally. But 'all work and no play' isn’t what we’re about; opportunities to socialise with colleagues at team and office level are readily available, and the Practice supports social activities through the provision of a 'social fund'.

As professionals, our expertise lies at the heart of what we do, and we take the professional development of our people seriously. As well as structured training programmes for those at the beginning of their careers and wishing to pursue Chartership, we support a range of in-house and external professional development activities for our engineering and support staff. Many of our staff have successfully pursued academic and professional qualifications while working with us, with our support. We believe it’s essential to our success that we support our staff in developing the full range of professional and managerial skills that they’ll need to deliver exceptional service to our clients, and grow as individuals. Therefore, our training programme includes managerial and other skills training, in addition to first class technical training.

Our sustainability policy establishes clear objectives to maintain our position as a leader in sustainability in the built environment, and contains core commitments relating to:

  • People and community - giving our staff the skills and enthusiasm to deliver sustainable solutions and making a positive impact on communities.
  • Projects - reducing the environmental impact of the buildings we design.

Our roadmap illustrates our journey so far, what we are doing today, and most importantly, where we are heading. It sets out our vision for a more sustainable future, establishes challenging targets, and describes some key actions to achieve these. 


We regularly issue sustainability reports which describe our environmental and social performance.


We are justifiably proud of our achievements to date in reducing the environmental impact of our business and our projects, and in driving change in the property industry in all of the countries where we operate. Established in 1976, Cundall’s fundamental vision remains unchanged - to provide professional and high-quality solutions to satisfy each client’s unique needs.

The founders - Michael Burch, Rick Carr, Geoffrey Cundall, David Gandy and Bernard Johnston - shared a common vision for Cundall: that it would become a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy which sets industry standards.

Founded in Newcastle and Edinburgh, the partnerships expansion was rapid and a London office soon followed. Early clients included North British Properties plc and Equity and Law Life Assurance Society. We still work with the successors to these organisations today - a testament to the fact that our reputation has been built on the foundations of client service.

Since 2003 Cundall has evolved from a UK-based multi-disciplinary practice of consulting engineers with three offices to a worldwide organisation with 20 offices in 11 countries offering world-leading sustainability advice. This has been achieved through a strategy of organic growth; visionary both in terms of both staff empowerment and business development. We believe that becoming involved in our local communities provides opportunities for us to grow as individuals and as a business, and we actively seek out opportunities for our staff to contribute. We have taken part in a number of large and smaller scale community projects around the world, including the provision of structural engineering input to the building of an amphitheatre in a remote South African community, the installation of photovoltaics on a school building on Vanuatu island in the South Pacific, and the renovation of a local community centre in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK.

    I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Cundall (London, England) in June 2017.

    Interview

    My interview was in the London office with a Director and the Chairman of the Partnership. Turned into a quite a long conversation (almost 2 hours) going in details of my previous job, responsibilities and skills and discussing in detail the requirements of the role I was interviewed for. Very friendly and laid back atmoshpere.
    The day after the interview, I was called to come back to the office to meet and speak to more of the team (an Associate and Senior Associate) and discuss more details of the role requirements. It was a very positive and again friendly follow up interview, finalized with handing in the draft offer.
