I have been working at Erlang Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Being a true tech company, Erlang Solutions work with the best Erlang and Elixir talent out there. But the company also invests in non-technical talent, developing Sales, Accounts and Marketing teams where the individuals have space and trust in leading their own functions and share their advice on our business direction.

Teams are also encouraged to spend time together outside work, the company cares about the work-life balance and a good culture by organising many get-togethers and outgoings.

The biggest pros are the people at Erlang Solutions!

    Cons

Sometimes the amount of work and handling multiple projects might be overwhelming, although it's down to individuals to pace items down. Also, communication across different offices could be improved.

    Advice to Management

Review the cross-office communication and find a better solution that can minimise or remove the comms silos.

    Senior Systems Engineer Interview

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Erlang Solutions (London, England) in March 2011.

    Interview

I applied via their website and heard back on the same day via email. The first interview was via Skype with two senior developers. Their focus was on ensuring I had the ability to architect systems which would scale, could design with fault tolerance in mind, and most importantly, think concurrently. It was very relaxed and friendly. I was asked to do a belbin test. The second interview was in their London office where I did the certification exam, I was interviewed by their technical director and operations manager. Focus here was on the ability to manage customers and act professionally in front of clients. How to manage difficult situations and expectations. I also got the chance to speak to some of my future colleagues. They had scheduled the interview in conjunction with an Erlang meetup, so I stayed on that evening.

    Interview Questions

    • There are no difficult questions, only specific answers which they are looking for. Either you know them, or you don't. Whilst the interview process seemed seamless and felt easy, what I learned later is that a lot of background checks were done. They had reviewed by contributions on github and don't forget they know everyone in the Erlang world. This meant they spoke to (as far as I know) two other former colleagues and one of my university professors!   Answer Question

    Negotiation

I was made an offer in line with my expectations. No negotiations.
